pomp & veggies

I guess my invitation got lost in the mail, LOL.

But although I didn't attend the State Dinner held at the White House in honor of the Indian Prime Minister last night, the menu had my mouth watering!

The Indian PM is a vegetarian, and the White House chefs honored that with a (nearly) 100% vegetarian menu. With the exception of (optional) prawns (so some guests couldn't eat vegetarian for even one dinner???), no animals were harmed in the name of this meal that fed 339 guests. Instead, the menu was filled with delicious, animal-friendly choices, including vegetables from Michelle's White House garden ... check it out:

Potato and Eggplant Salad
White House Arugula w/Onion Seed Vinaigrette
2008 Savingnon Blanc, Modus Operandi, Napa Valley

Red Lentil Soup with Fresh Cheese
2006 Riesling, Brooks "Ara", Wilamette Valley

Roast Potato Dumplings with tomato chutney, chick peas and okra
(or)
Green Curry Prawns with caramelized salsify with smoked collard greens and coconut aged basmati
2007 Granache Beckman Vineyards, Santa Ynez, CA

Pumpkin pie tart
Pear tatin
Whipped cream and caramel sauce
Sparkling Chardonnay, Thibaut Janisson Brut, Monticello, VA

Petits fours and Coffee
Cashew Brittle
Pecan Pralines
Passion fruit and vanilla gelees
Chocolate dipped fruit

Happy Thanksgiving,
