a blissful day in the rainforest

Hola!

So many of you have said that you'd like to follow along on our Costa Rican journey, and I thank you for that! I'll do my best to stay connected when we're, at times, in the middle of nowhere....

Below are some scenes from our adventure so far. We're loving both the natural beauty of Costa Rica, and the warmth of the people. And I'm thrilled to be in a place that treasures the environment so much! Recycling (everything) is the norm here--- Costa Rica is green in every way, even their passport stamps, ha! ;-)

Sal and I spent our first full day relaxing at our resort, Tabacon. So nice to see Sal enjoy some time off, he works so hard and February was an especially stressful month chock full of research grant deadlines.

We have an amazing view of Arenal Volcano right from our room! This resort is amazing (!!) because it incorporates a mineral water river that is heated from below by the magma from neighboring Arenal Volcano (yes, it's active!). Talk about relaxing!! Sal and I (and my 'rainforest green' toes--- you knew I'd do that, right?) spent hours soaking in the perfectly-warmed water, complete with massaging waterfalls. And all in the midst of a lush rainforest; I could stare at the magnificent tropical foliage all day... even though I live in Florida where we have a lot of it too.

The only thing that could convince me to get out of the thermal springs were my evening treatments at Tabacon's incredible spa--- I opted for a Costa Rican coffee body scrub and a hot stone massage in an outdoor, open-air bungalow, surrounded by the sounds of the rainforest (think nocturnal animals squawking, chirping) and the cascading river water... bliss! heavenly! pampering! We'll sleep well tonight... sweet dreams & pura vida!

Our next stops.... hanging rainforest bridges and Arenal Volcano National Park.
And one more spa treatment--- a volcanic mud wrap (of course!). Oh, and more soaking.....

Buenas noches,
Susan
